There is also a separate Language Centre which teaches English language courses all year round, some of which combine studying English with Art and Design, Photography, Fashion, etc.
The colleges, many of which have very long and famous histories individually, all came together in 1986 and the joint entity that was created was awarded university status in 2003. The University of the Arts London is now the largest Art and Design focused academic institution in the whole of
Forget about its place in the national league tables – this is undoubtedly one of the best universities in the world to study Art, Design, Fashion, Communication or the Performing Arts. Teachers and students alike are made up of the world’s elite in their subject specialisms. Famous alumni include such well-known figures as Alexander McQueen, Stella Mcartney and John Galliano (fashion design) as well as Sir Terence Conran.
Studying at UOA is characterized by being practice based, creative and strongly linked with industry. Half of all teaching is carried out by Associate Lecturers, who combine teaching with their own arts based practice.
Facilities across all the sites are excellent. Specialist facilities include a 3D body scanner at London College of Fashion; broadcasting studios, sonic arts studios and a real-life newsroom at London College of Communication, and a professional theatre at Wimbledon College of Art.
Total number of students is about 15,000, one third of which are international students.

The university only has around 1,700 beds available for students, mostly self-catered and close to one of the 6 colleges. Accommodation is limited, therefore not guaranteed, even for international students, so make sure you apply as early as possible.
