         The University of the Arts London consists of 6 internationally famous colleges;

·          Camberwell College of Art

·          Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design

·          Chelsea College of Art and Design

·          London College of Communication

·          London College of Fashion

·          Wimbledon College of Art

There is also a separate Language Centre which teaches English language courses all year round, some of which combine studying English with Art and Design, Photography, Fashion, etc.

The colleges, many of which have very long and famous histories individually, all came together in 1986 and the joint entity that was created was awarded university status in 2003. The University of the Arts London is now the largest Art and Design focused academic institution in the whole of Europe, and one of the largest anywhere in the world.

Forget about its place in the national league tables – this is undoubtedly one of the best universities in the world to study Art, Design, Fashion, Communication or the Performing Arts. Teachers and students alike are made up of the world’s elite in their subject specialisms. Famous alumni include such well-known figures as Alexander McQueen, Stella Mcartney and John Galliano (fashion design) as well as Sir Terence Conran.

Studying at UOA is characterized by being practice based, creative and strongly linked with industry. Half of all teaching is carried out by Associate Lecturers, who combine teaching with their own arts based practice.

Facilities across all the sites are excellent. Specialist facilities include a 3D body scanner at London College of Fashion; broadcasting studios, sonic arts studios and a real-life newsroom at London College of Communication, and a professional theatre at Wimbledon College of Art.

Total number of students is about 15,000, one third of which are international students.

         London is one of the world’s great international cities, full of heritage and culture. London is very cosmopolitan and multi-cultured, with 8,000,000 people from all over the world calling London “home”. It has many, many famous tourist attractions, interesting museums, art galleries, theatres, shops, markets and parks, not to mention an amazing and huge selection of restaurants, cafes, bars and other social / entertainment venues. London has an excellent public transport network, including the tube (underground railway system), over-ground trains and buses. It is also served by a number of international airports, including the two main ones; London, Heathrow and London, Gatwick.

         The university only has around 1,700 beds available for students, mostly self-catered and close to one of the 6 colleges. Accommodation is limited, therefore not guaranteed, even for international students, so make sure you apply as early as possible.

Estimated accommodation and living costs in central London are high, over £10,000 per year and tuition fees at UOA are slightly above the national average level.
